Ganga Kalyana Scheme Overview

The Ganga Kalyana Scheme aims to provide beneficiaries with essential irrigation facilities, including one drilled borewell or open well, along with a pump set from KMDC. To qualify, beneficiaries must belong to a minority community and be small or marginal farmers.

Through this scheme, Karnataka farmers will benefit from improved irrigation systems. These systems utilize perennial water sources or lift water using pipelines. The Karnataka government regularly introduces various policies to uplift our farmers’ conditions. Under this scheme, every eligible and needy farmer in the state will receive a drilled borewell and a pump set.

A. Lift Irrigation Scheme

Under the Lift Irrigation Scheme, agricultural land will receive irrigation by tapping into perennial water sources, like rivers, and lifting the water through pipelines.

Eligibility:

  • The beneficiaries must belong to the religious minority communities as defined in the Government Order.
  • Permanent residents of Karnataka State.
  • They should be small and marginal farmers.
  • Annual family income should not exceed ₹22,000/-.

Beneficiaries with less than 5 acres of land, with a minimum of 7 persons from minority communities whose lands are adjacent, will receive “Lift” irrigation facilities.

B. Individual Borewell

In areas where perennial water sources are not available, borewells will be drilled based on locations identified by expert geologists. Water tanks will also be constructed to store water, helping supply water to the farmland through pipes. The corporation will maintain these borewells for five years, after which they will be handed over to the consumer cooperatives of the beneficiaries. Agricultural experts will provide guidance to ensure farmers achieve good yields. This scheme is designed as a subsidy program.

For beneficiaries with 2 to 5 acres of land, one borewell will be drilled, or an open well will be constructed, and a pump set will be supplied by KMDC. The total expense amounts to ₹1,50,000/- which covers pump and energisation charges.

Eligibility:

  • Must belong to the religious minority communities as defined in the Government Order.
  • Permanent residents of Karnataka State.
  • Must be small and marginal farmers.
  • Annual family income should not exceed ₹22,000/-.

The Selection Procedure

The District Managers of the relevant districts announce the call for applications through newspapers. All received applications will be checked and assessed. The District Manager then submits proposals to the Taluk committee, led by the concerned MLA, who chairs the committee. This committee will select the beneficiaries and forward the necessary documentation to the head office.
