Krishna Janmashtami, a joyful celebration marked by devotion, falls in the month of Shravan during the Krishna Paksha Ashtami. On this auspicious day, it is believed that Lord Krishna was born at midnight in the prison of Mathura, as mentioned in various scriptures. As soon as Krishna was born, his father Vasudeva secretly took him to Gokula to protect him from his wicked uncle Kansa. There, he left Krishna in the care of Nanda Baba. Nature itself conspired to help with this divine plan. While Devaki gave birth to Krishna, Yashoda lovingly nurtured him as her own son.

According to Hindu religious texts, Lord Krishna was born in Mathura, specifically on the Ashtami Tithi in the month of Shravan, as the son of Devaki and Vasudeva. Devaki was the sister of the evil king Kansa. A prophecy foretold that Kansa would be killed by the eighth son of Devaki, leading him to imprison her and Vasudeva. To prevent the prophecy from coming true, Kansa started killing newborns as soon as Devaki gave birth.

On Janmashtami day, wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and clean the area of your home where the deity resides.
Light a lamp in the deity’s room.
Perform Jalabhishek for all deities. On this day, the child form of Lord Krishna, known as Bal Gopala, is worshiped.
This day, place Bal Gopala in a swinging cradle.
Offer Laddus to Gopala as per your wish.
The nighttime puja is the most important because Lord Krishna was born during the night.
In the evening, perform a special puja for Lord Krishna. Offer him butter, sugar, fruits, sweets, and dry fruits.
After offering Naivedya, perform Aarti for Gopala.
