National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) - Summary
National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) is an important initiative launched by the Narendra Modi Government on 15th August 2020. The primary aim of NDHM is to create an integrated healthcare system that is efficient, effective, transparent, accessible, inclusive, affordable, fast, and safe.
Objective of NDHM
The main objective of the National Digital Health Mission is to achieve the highest possible level of health and well-being for everyone, at all ages. This will be done through a focus on preventive and promotive healthcare in all developmental policies. Moreover, it aims to ensure universal access to high-quality healthcare services without anyone facing financial difficulties.
Health ID and Digital Ecosystem
Under the National Digital Health Mission, every citizen of India will be provided with a Health ID. This Health ID will allow for the secure storage and exchange of personal healthcare records, including treatment history, report data, prescriptions, and appointment details.
The NDHB Strategy Overview can be seen as a set of guidelines. This document outlines the broad context, rationale, scope, and implementation arrangements for creating a digital ecosystem for healthcare services throughout the country. Since the implementation will follow a mission mode approach, it is known as the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM).
