Cyber Safety Handbook - Summary

Cyber Safety Handbook

A comprehensive initiative called PM eVIDYA has been launched as part of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan on 17th May 2020, aiming to enhance cyber safety education through digital means. This initiative brings together all efforts related to digital learning, ensuring multi-mode access to education. The key features include:

  • DIKSHA (one nation, one digital platform) is India’s digital infrastructure providing quality e-content for school education in states/UTs, with QR-coded Energized Textbooks available for all grades.
  • One dedicated Swayam Prabha TV channel per class from 1 to 12 (one class, one channel).
  • Widespread use of Radio, Community radio, and CBSE Podcast – Shiksha Vani.
  • Specialized e-content for visually and hearing-impaired students, developed on the Digitally Accessible Information System (DAISY) and in sign language on NIOS website/YouTube.

Transforming Online Education

In support of online education, the UGC has implemented essential regulations, allowing universities to offer full-fledged Online Programs. The existing provisions for 20 percent Online courses in a program under UGC SWAYAM and ODL Regulations have been enhanced to a maximum of 40 percent. This change aims to meet the “National interest during COVID-19” and promote the effective use of digital e-resources.

The Ministry of Education has undertaken various digital initiatives including SWAYAM (“Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds”), SWAYAM Prabha, National Digital Library (NDL), Virtual Lab, e-Yantra, NEAT (National Education Alliance for Technology), and FOSSEE (Free Open-Source Software for Education) to ensure high-quality education access for students.

Improving Internet Connectivity

To boost internet connectivity in rural areas, the CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd (CSC-SPV) under MEITY has been tasked with providing Fibre to the Home (FTTH) connectivity to government institutions, including schools.

As part of its efforts, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a ‘Cyber Safety Handbook’ to promote safe and healthy digital habits among students.
