Latest Covid Guidelines / Advisory Dec 2022 PDF

The Union Health Ministry asked states and Union Territories to gear up whole genome sequencing of Covid-19 positive case samples to track SARS-CoV-2 variants in the country amid a spurt in infections in China, the United States, and Japan. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said such an exercise would enable timely detection of newer variants, if any, circulating in the country and ensure undertaking of requisite public health measures.

ln view of sudden spurt of cases being witnessed in Japan, USA, Korea, Brazil and China, it is essential to gear up whole genome sequencing of positive case samples to track variants through Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) network,” the Health Ministry said in a letter to states.

All states are requested to ensure that as far as possible samples of all positive cases, on a daily basis, are sent to the designated INSACOG Genome Sequencing Laboratories (IGSLs) that are mapped to the States and UTs,” said Union Health Ministry.
