Objective of the Ishan Uday Scholarship

The Ishan Uday Scholarship aims to provide equal opportunities for higher studies in the North Eastern Region of India. The objectives include:

  • Helping students in the NE Region to get access to higher education.
  • Increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in the NE Region.
  • Encouraging professional education in the NE Region.
  • Ensuring the best use of the NE Region’s budget for scholarships.
  • Offering up to ten thousand (10,000) new scholarships every year from the academic year 2014-15 for general degree, technical, and professional courses, including medical and para-medical courses.

Eligibility Criteria for the Ishan Uday Scholarship

To qualify for the Ishan Uday Scholarship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. The student must be a resident of the North Eastern Region and have passed Class XII or an equivalent exam from a recognized school in the NER. This includes schools under various Boards like CBSE, ICSE, and NIOS.
  2. The student should have secured admission in a recognized general degree course, technical course, or professional course (including medical and paramedical) at Universities/Colleges/Institutions recognized under:
    1. Institutions included under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act.
    2. Deemed Universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, eligible for UGC grants.
    3. Colleges funded by the Central or State Government.
    4. Institutes of National Importance.
    5. Institutes recognized by other statutory councils.
  3. Only first-year undergraduate students can apply for this scholarship.
  4. For integrated degree courses, the scholarship will be valid for the entire duration of the course. For dual degree courses, the scholarship will only cover the first degree, as clarified by the university while recommending the candidate.
  5. The parents’ income should not exceed Rs.4.5 lakh per annum for the student to be eligible for the scholarship.
  6. Transgender candidates can apply as per the government’s reservation norms.

Exclusions from the Ishan Uday Scholarship

Students in the following categories are not eligible for the scholarship:

  1. Individuals studying through Open Universities.
  2. Students who are already receiving a scholarship for an undergraduate program from another scheme.
  3. Students admitted through ‘management quota’.
  4. Students pursuing Diploma Courses that do not lead to a Degree.
  5. Students whose parents earn more than Rs.4.5 lakh per annum.

Amount of Fellowship

Beneficiary students will receive Rs.5400/- per month for General Degree courses and Rs.7800/- per month for Technical & Professional courses (including Medical & Para-medical courses) through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
