Introduction
Pearl Sydenstricker Buck was a famous American writer and novelist. She grew up as the daughter of missionaries and spent most of her early life in China before 1934. Her novel “The Good Earth” was the best-selling fiction in 1931 and 1932, and in 1938, she received the Nobel Prize in Literature for her truly remarkable descriptions of peasant life in China and for her biographical works.
On 30th January 1948, India faced the tragic assassination of Mahatma Gandhi at the Birla House in New Delhi, where Naturam Vinayak Godse took his life. Gandhi’s most powerful weapon was non-violence. His teachings and way of life inspired many around the world, leading civil rights and freedom movements globally. Notably, even Pearl S. Buck was inspired by him. She beautifully expressed, “Mahatma Gandhi came and stood at the door of India’s destitute millions, clad as one of themselves.”

Introduction
Chief Seattle (circa 1780—June 7, 1866) was a leader of the Duwamish tribe, Native Americans from western Washington and metropolitan Seattle. In 1854, the United States Government proposed to buy a vast area of Indian land, suggesting a ‘reservation’ for the Native people. Chief Seattle replied with a profound prose passage known as ‘The End of Living and the Beginning of Survival,’ which remains an inspiring statement about the environment and its issues.
There is significant debate surrounding Chief Seattle’s 1854 speech, with various versions, conflicting details, and discussions about its authenticity.
