Chief Ministers (CM): Usually, the term of office for Chief Ministers of India is for a maximum of five years but there is no limit to the number of terms a person can serve as CM of India. At present, there are 30 Chief Ministers in India which includes 28 Chief Ministers from States and 2 from the Union Territories (Delhi and Puducherry). In India union comprises 28 states and 8 union territories.
Governor: The governors are appointed by the President of India. For states, the governors are appointed whereas lieutenant governors are appointed for Union territories. The tenure for the governors and lieutenant governors is 5 years. As an exception, some union territories will have administrators. There are certain eligibility qualifications for a person to become a governor of India.
- The person must be a citizen of India.
- Minimum age – 35 years.
- The person must not be a Member of Parliament (MP) or a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).
- He should not hold any office of profit
