The Govt. of India announced the Rs.1.70 Lakh Crore relief package under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) on 26.03.2020 to help the poor during the struggle against the Corona Virus Pandemic. This scheme aims to provide financial assistance and various benefits to those in need.
Key Features of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana
As part of this support package, the Central Govt. will pay 24 percent of the monthly wages into the EPF accounts for the next three months. This benefit is for wage-earners earning below Rupees fifteen thousand per month. It applies to employees working in establishments that have up to one hundred employees, with at least 90% of them earning monthly wages less than Rs.15000/-.

To ensure that low wage-earning employees do not face employment issues, the government will cover the entire employees’ EPF contributions (12% of wages) along with the employers’ EPF & EPS contribution (12% of wages). This adds up to a total of 24% of the monthly wages for the coming three months. The contributions will be directly credited into the EPF accounts (UAN) of eligible employees who are already members of the EPF Scheme, 1952, earning less than Rs.15000/- per month and working in the covered establishments.
