Kumaraswami Kamaraj (15 July 1903 – 2 October 1975) is an important figure in Indian history. He is often recognized for his role as an exceptional Indian independence activist and politician. Kamarajar served as the Chief Minister of Madras State (now Tamil Nadu) from 13 April 1954 to 2 October 1963, making remarkable contributions to the state’s development.
Known as the “Kingmaker” of Indian politics during the 1960s, Kamarajar played a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of India. He was the founder and president of the Indian National Congress (Organisation) and led the Indian National Congress for two terms, from 1964 to 1967. His leadership significantly impacted the elevation of Lal Bahadur Shastri as the Prime Minister of India after Jawaharlal Nehru’s demise, and later, Indira Gandhi after Shastri’s passing.
