Steps to be taken by the Nominee
- The nominee should approach the bank where the member held their savings bank account through which they were covered under the PMJJBY, along with the member’s death certificate.
- The nominee needs to collect the claim form and discharge receipt from the bank, or any designated source like insurance company branches, hospitals, insurance agents, etc., including from official websites.
- The nominee must submit the completed claim form, discharge receipt, death certificate, along with a photocopy of the cancelled cheque of the nominee’s bank account (if available) or the bank account details to the same bank where the member had their savings bank account through which they were covered under PMJJBY.
Steps to be taken by the Bank
- When the bank receives the death intimation, it should verify if the member’s coverage was active on the date of death. This means checking whether the premium for the cover was deducted and sent to the insurance company before the member passed away.
- The bank needs to review the claim form and nominee details against their records and fill in the relevant parts of the claim form.
- The bank should then submit the following documents to the designated office of the concerned insurance company:
- Completed Claim Form
- Death certificate
- Discharge Receipt
- Photocopy of cancelled cheque of the Nominee (if available).
- The bank has a maximum of thirty days from the submission of the claim to forward the completed claim form to the insurance company.
Steps to be taken at the designated office of the Insurance Company
- The insurer’s office must check that the claim form is complete and all relevant documents are attached. If anything is missing, they should contact the concerned bank.
- If the claim is eligible, the insurer will verify that the member’s coverage is active and no previous death claim has been settled for the member through any other account. If a claim has been settled, the nominee will be informed, and the bank will receive a copy.
- If coverage was active and no claim has been previously settled for the member, the payment will be made to the nominee’s bank account, and a communication will be sent to the nominee, with a copy going to the bank.
- The insurance company has a maximum of thirty days to approve the claim and release the payment from the date they receive the claim from the bank.
If the claim form is submitted directly to the insurance company by the claimant, the insurer will pass it on to the concerned bank of the deceased for necessary verification. The bank will then send the claim form to the insurance company for processing.
