Eligibility criteria:

  • Farmers in the notified area who hold a Crop Loan account/KCC account (known as Loanee Farmers) that have been sanctioned or renewed for the notified crop during the crop season.
  • Other farmers whom the Government may decide to include from time to time.

Documents Required for PMFBY Form

  • Identity proof of the farmer such as PAN card, driving license, voter ID card, passport, or Aadhaar card.
  • Address proof like driving license, voter ID card, passport, or Aadhaar card.
  • Photocopy of field Khasra number/account number.
  • Proof of crop sowing in the field.
  • A canceled cheque along with all the documents.

Highlights of the scheme

  • Farmers will pay a uniform premium of only 2% for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. For annual commercial and horticultural crops, the premium will only be 5%. The government will cover the remaining premium, ensuring farmers receive full insurance coverage against crop losses from natural calamities.
  • There is no upper limit on the Government subsidy. Even if the balance premium is 90%, the Government takes care of it.
  • Previously, a cap was placed on premium rates, which resulted in low claims being paid to farmers. This cap has been lifted, allowing farmers to receive claims against the full sum insured without any deductions.
  • Technology use will be greatly encouraged. Farmers will use smartphones to capture and upload crop cutting data, helping to speed up claim payments. Remote sensing will reduce the number of crop cutting experiments needed.
