Subhas Chandra Bose and The Indian Struggle Part-1 Book
The first volume of The Indian Struggle covers the years from 1920 to 1934. It was published by Lawrence and Wishart in London in 1935. Subhas Chandra Bose wrote this book while he was living in Europe, away from India. He had been arrested by the British because of his links with the Bengal Volunteers group and because of claims about his involvement in revolutionary activities.
While staying in Vienna, Bose mainly wrote from memory since he didn’t have access to many documents. When Bose returned to Karachi in December 1934 – even though the British government had stopped him from entering India – he was arrested, and the original manuscript was taken from him. After it was published in London the next year, British critics spoke highly of the book, but it was immediately banned in India. Samuel Hoare, the Secretary of State for India at the time, told the British parliament that the book promoted terrorism and encouraged Indians to take direct action.
