The Arthashastra is an ancient Indian Sanskrit treatise on statecraft, politics, economics, military strategy, the function of the state, and social organization attributed to the philosopher and Prime Minister Kautilya (Also known as Chanakya, Vishnugupta, l. c. 350-275 BCE).
Kautilya, also identified as Vishnugupta and Chanakya, is traditionally credited as the author of the text. The latter was a scholar at Takshashila, the teacher and guardian of Emperor Chandragupta Maurya.
