These updates were published in the Delhi Gazette vide No F.No.20/4/2003/HP-II/1324. Now, app-based cabs like Uber and Ola can operate their vehicles at a maximum speed of 50-70 kmph on most routes as they fall under the M1 category. This category also includes regular cars and jeeps. However, the speed limit should be reduced to 30 kmph in commercial markets, minor roads, and residential areas.

Delhi Traffic Speed Limits – Rules

  • The Delhi Traffic Police has fixed the speed of all two-wheelers and motorbikes at a maximum of 50-60 kmph on highways and flyovers. This limit must be reduced to 30 kmph when riding in residential complexes, service roads, and commercial markets.
  • For two-wheelers like motorbikes and scooters, the maximum speed limit on most roads, highways, and flyovers is set at 50-60 km/h. Similarly, they should maintain a speed of 30 km/h on all minor roads within residential areas, commercial markets, and service roads.
  • M2 and M3 category vehicles must also follow a speed limit of 50-60 kmph. All transport vehicles, including Gramin Sewa, TSRs, Phat-Phat Sewa, and quadricycles, need to maintain 40 kmph.
  • If a rider or driver exceeds the above speed restrictions set by Delhi Traffic Police by more than 5% of the fixed maximum speed limit, they may face action under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. However, those driving within 5% of the set limits may be excused as per the notification from Delhi Traffic Police.
