The State government will issue show-cause notices to more than 450 B.Ed colleges that failed inspections conducted by the Higher Education Department. According to the department, 265 of the state’s 602 B.Ed colleges were found unfit to function as teacher training institutions after failing to meet prescribed standards. Officials also discovered that around 17 colleges were operating multiple teaching centres in violation of NCTE norms, while 51 colleges were either locked or could not be located at their registered addresses during the inspection.

Out of 602 inspected B.Ed colleges, state evaluators flagged critical deficiencies across multiple parameters:

265 Colleges: Classified as unfit or non-functional due to substandard training quality and inadequate infrastructure.
51+ Colleges: Found locked or completely non-existent at their registered addresses during unannounced visits.
17 Colleges: Discovered operating multiple unauthorized teaching centers or functioning out of residential addresses in violation of NCTE norms.
Core Issues Flagged: Severe faculty shortages, non-compliance with student attendance, and lack of essential campus facilities.
