Surah Rum - Summary
Ar-Rum is the 30th chapter (surah) of the Quran and contains 60 verses. The word Rum comes from “Romans” and during the time of Prophet Muhammad, it referred to the Byzantine Greeks (Eastern Roman Empire). Understanding Surah Rum
This surah offers insights into how the major Byzantine–Sasanian War of 602–628 affected the Arabs of Mecca. They were curious onlookers, unaware that in just a generation, they too would establish their own empire and overcome both the Persians and the Byzantines.
The Message of Surah Rum
فَإِذَا رَكِبُوا فِي الْفُلْكِ دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ
الدِّينَ ، فَلَمَّا نَجْهُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِ إِذَا هُم يُشْرِكُونَ .
لِيَكْفُرُوا مَا اتَيْهُمْ وَلِيَتَمَتَّعُوا فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ *
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا اَنَا جَعَلْنَا حَرَمًا اِمِنَّا وَيُتَخَطَّفُ النَّاسُ
مِنْ حَوْلِهِمْ أَفَبِالْبَاطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَةِ اللهِ
يَكْفُرُونَ وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ افْتَرى عَلَى اللهِ
كَذِبًا أَوْكَذَّبَ بِالْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاءَهُ أَلَيْسَ فِي
