23 PSUs Disinvestment List - Summary
To enhance the growth of the PSU sector, the Centre is focused on the disinvestment of 23 PSUs, as announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. During a discussion with Hero Enterprise Chairman Sunil Kant Munjal, the minister highlighted that under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the government aims to encourage private participation in all sectors.
Overview of PSU Disinvestment Plans
The Finance Minister emphasized the importance of consolidating PSUs and expanding their operations. She noted that the government intends to sell stakes in PSUs when the time is right to maximize returns.
Sitharaman stated, “There are already nearly 22-23 such PSUs which have been cleared by the Cabinet for disinvestment. The intent is clear that at least for those which had already been cleared by the Cabinet, we will have to disinvest.”
PSU Disinvestment List: Which Are These 23 PSUs?
This announcement aligns with the government’s goal of raising Rs 2.10 lakh crore through disinvestment initiatives. The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) has already commenced the disinvestment process for several companies, including BPCL, its subsidiary NRL, SCI, CONCOR, Air India, LIC, and various minority stake sales. Additionally, the sale of THDC and NEEPCO to NTPC Limited was successfully concluded in the previous financial year.
