Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, popularly known as Sir MV was one of India’s greatest inventors. He was the Diwan of Mysore State from 1912 to 1918. His birthday is celebrated as Abhiyantar Day all over India. Visvesvaraya was born on September 15, 1860, at Muddenahalli in the Chikkaballapur district. Visvesvaraya’s father was ‘Srinivasa Shastri’ and his mother was ‘Venkatalakshmamma’.
Mokshagundam is associated with his name because his ancestors migrated from a place called ‘Mokshagundam’ in present-day Andhra Pradesh and settled in Muddenahalli. Visvesvaraya later joined the Public Works Department in the city of Mumbai in 1884. After this, he received an invitation from the Irrigation Commission of India. After joining this commission Visvesvaraya introduced a better irrigation system in the Deccan Plateau itself.
Sir M. V. He was greatly influenced by Arthur Cotton. In damming the river Kaveri he was impressed by the grand dam built by the Chola kings at Tiruchanapalli and completely renovated by Arthur Cotton in the mid-18th century. Later Maharaja reported this. He discovered and patented the ‘Automatic Flood Gate Design’ used in dams. These flood gates were first installed in 1903 at ‘Khadakwasla’ Dam in Pune.

- ೧೮೮೫ – ಬಾಂಬೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ವಿಸ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿ ನೇಮಕ, ನಾಸಿಕ್ ಮತ್ತು ಪುಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ.
- ೧೮೯೪ – ಸಿಂಧ್ ಪ್ರಾಂತದ ಸುಕ್ಕೂರ್ ಪುರಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರು ಸರಬರಾಜಿಗೆ ಸಂಭಂದಪಟ್ಟ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸ ಹಾಗು ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ.
- ೧೮೯೬ – ಸೂರತ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಸ್ಎಕ್ಯುಟಿವ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ.
- ೧೮೯೭ – ೯೯ :ಪುಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಾಹಕ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿ ಸೇವೆ.

- ೧೯೦೩ – ಫೈಫ್ ಕೆರೆಗೆ ತಾವೇ ಪೇಟೆಂಟ್ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಅತ್ಯಾಧುನಿಕ ವಿಧಾನ ಬಳಸಿ ಸ್ವಯಂಚಾಲಿತ ಆಣೆಕಟ್ಟು ದ್ವಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಪಡಿಸಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಭಾರತ ನೀರಾವರಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಭಾಷ್ಯ.
- ೧೯೦೩ – ವ್ಯವಸಾಯ ದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಬ್ಲಾಕ್ ಸಿಸ್ಟಮ್’ ಎಂಬ ಹೊಸ ವಿಧಾನ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದ್ದು.
- ೧೯೦೪ – ಶಿಮ್ಲಾ ವ್ಯವಸಾಯ ಆಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಂಬೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸಿದ್ದು.
- ೧೯೦೭ – ಸುಪೆರಿಂಡೆಂಟ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ.
- ೧೯೦೮ – ಈಜಿಪ್ಟ್, ಕೆನಡಾ, ಅಮೆರಿಕಾ ಹಾಗು ರಷ್ಯಾ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು.
- ೧೯೦೯ – ಮೂಸಿ ನದಿ ಪ್ರವಾಹದಿಂದ ತತ್ತರಿಸಿದ ಹೈದೆರಾಬಾದ್ ನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿ ನೇಮಕ, ಪ್ರವಾಹದಿಂದ ಹಾಳಾದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಭಂದಿಸಿದ ವಿಚಾರಗಳ ಪುನರ್ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಒತ್ತು.
- ೧೯೦೯ – ಬ್ರಿಟೀಷ್ ಸೇವೆಯಿಂದ ನಿವೃತ್ತಿ.
