How Complaints are Handled Under the Act

The Act allows filing complaints for women who cannot do it themselves for different reasons:

If the woman cannot physically file a complaint, it can be submitted by:

A relative or friend,
A co-worker,
An officer from the National Commission for Women or the State Womens Commission, or
Anyone who knows about the incident, with the womans written consent.

For mental incapacity, complaints can be made by:

A relative or friend,
A special educator,
A qualified psychiatrist or psychologist,
The guardian or responsible person for her care or treatment, or
Anyone who knows about the incident, along with the above persons.

If the woman cannot file a complaint for other reasons, anyone with her written consent can do it for her.
If the woman has sadly passed away, any person who knows about the incident may file a complaint with the written consent of her legal heir.
