Understanding Quran Para 2
Reciting the Quran is a vital part of a good Muslim’s life. Most practicing Muslims regularly recite the Quran, and this is a beautiful act that should be praised by everyone. However, some Muslims believe that Quran recitation isn’t effective if they don’t understand the meaning. This is a common misconception.
Why is Recitation of Quran Para 2 Important for Muslims?
Yunus [10:61]: And you are not (engaged) in any affair, nor do you recite concerning it any portion of the Quran, nor do you do any work but We are witnesses over you when you enter into it, and there does not lie concealed from your Lord the weight of an atom in the earth or in the heaven, nor anything less than that nor greater, but it is in a clear book.
Indeed, the recitation of the Quran comes with specific manners and ethics, which are both physical and spiritual. The physical aspects are quite simple:
- Be clean. A person should perform ‘ghusl’ or at least ablution before reciting the Quran. Although ablution is not compulsory for recitation, it is a respected practice among Muslims.
- Ensure that you cover your ‘satar’ properly before reciting the Quran.
The spiritual manners of Quran recitation are described in the following verses:
- Al-Araf [7:204]: And when the Quran is recited, then listen to it and remain silent, that mercy may be shown to you.
- An-Nahl [16:98]: So when you recite the Quran, seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan.
Undoubtedly, Allah Almighty has elaborated everything in the Quran. The verses may be short but convey detailed meanings.
It’s essential to recite the Quran properly. The angel Jibril used to recite the Quran to our Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w), and he conveyed it to his companions in the best manner. Allah Almighty has emphasized in the Quran that the recitation should be done correctly. For example:
Al-Muzzammil [73:4]: And recite the Quran as it ought to be recited.
Our Prophet would share the Quran with those around him. It was his duty to pass on the message; how people responded was their personal choice. This approach to Quran recitation is explained in the following verse:
An-Naml [27:92]: And that I should recite the Quran. Therefore whoever goes aright, he goes aright for his own soul, and whoever goes astray, then say: I am only one of the warners.
The rewards of reciting the Quran are great. One of the significant rewards is mentioned in the Quran:
Al-Isra [17:45]: And when you recite the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the hereafter a hidden barrier.
