Highlights of the Scheme
- Farmers will pay a uniform premium of only 2% for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. The premium for annual commercial and horticultural crops is just 5%. The government covers the remaining premium, ensuring farmers receive full insurance coverage against crop losses from natural calamities.
- No upper limit exists on the Government subsidy. This means that even if the balance premium is 90%, the Government fully supports it.
- In the past, a cap was placed on premium rates, leading to low claims for farmers. This cap has been lifted, allowing farmers to receive claims for the full sum insured without any deductions.
- The use of technology will be greatly encouraged. Farmers can use smartphones to capture and upload crop cutting data, which will help speed up claim payments. Remote sensing will also reduce the number of crop cutting experiments needed.
