(PMAYG) Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin is a crucial rural housing scheme aimed at providing affordable homes for the rural population of India. Launched by the Narendra Modi Government, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin was formally approved during a cabinet meeting on 23rd March 2015. This scheme plays a vital role in the mission to achieve housing for all in rural India by the year 2022.

Guidelines of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin

  • The government plans to construct 1 crore pucca (permanent) houses for the rural poor within the next three years.
  • In total, 4 crore homes are expected to be built under PMAY-G in rural areas across the country by 2022.
  • This scheme is anticipated to create many job opportunities in rural regions.
  • The implementation of the project will take place over three years, from 2016-2017 to 2018-2019, with a budget of Rs. 81,975 crore.
  • Of the estimated budget, Rs. 60,000 crore will come from government allocations, while the rest will be sourced through Nabard.
  • Financial assistance for each house will be shared between central and state governments at a ratio of 60:40 in plain areas and 90:10 in hilly and northeastern states.
  • Beneficiaries will be selected based on the data from the Socio-Economic Caste Census of 2011.
  • An allowance of Rs. 120,000 for plain areas and Rs. 130,000 for hilly areas will be provided to support home construction.
  • The size of the unit will be increased from 20 sq.mt. to 25 sq.mt., including a dedicated cooking area for hygiene.
  • Toilets will be provided for Rs. 12,000, along with 90/95 days of unskilled wage labour under MGNREGA, in addition to the unit cost.
  • Funds will be directly transferred electronically to the beneficiaries’ accounts.
  • Beneficiaries may opt for a loan of up to Rs. 70,000 for house construction.
  • Special projects will receive sanction based on specific needs and situations of the states.
  • NEW UPDATE: Home loans up to Rs. 2 Lakh taken in 2017 for maintenance or upgradation of homes under PM Awas Yojana – Gramin will receive an interest subvention of 3%.
