Every Indian citizen living abroad, who has not taken the citizenship of another country, and who has turned 18 years old as of 1st January of the year, can apply using Form 6A to be registered in the electoral roll for the constituency that corresponds to their home address in India as listed in their passport.
The application using Form 6A must be given to the relevant registration officer. It is important that the applicant has turned eighteen years old as of 1st January of the applicable year. For instance, if the application is for adding a name to the electoral roll with 01-01-2011 as the qualifying date, the applicant should be 18 years old by that date.

- Attach one recent passport-size coloured photograph with a light background (preferably white) showing the full face of the applicant.
- Ensure all fields in Form-6A are filled. Write your name and other details exactly as shown in your valid Indian Passport.
- If sending the application by post, include a photocopy of the important pages of the passport that have your photograph, other details, and the page with the valid visa endorsement. All photocopies must be self-attested.
- If submitting in person to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), the application needs to be accompanied by a photocopy of the required passport pages as mentioned above. The original passport must also be shown to the registration officer for verification. The passport will be returned immediately after checking.
The application must be submitted directly to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of the constituency where the applicant’s ordinary residence, as mentioned in their valid passport, is located. You can either give the application in person at the ERO office or send it by post to the appropriate ERO.
