Margasira Lakshmi Vrat Katha & Pooja Vidhanam Telugu
Margashirsha Purnima is believed to be sacred and auspicious. Devotees worship Lord Satyanarayana on Margashirsha Purnima as it is believed praying over Lord Satyanarayan would relieve them of all problems and wash their past sins.
During this month taking bath in Yamuna or Ganga is considered highly significant. Also, making donations and charity is believed to wash away all sins.
Margasira Lakshmi Pooja Vidhanam
Margasira Lakshmi Puja is one of the major vows observed in North Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Though the puja procedure or puja vidhanam is same as other Lakshmi vratham like Deepavali Lakshmi puja and Varalakshmi puja, the naivedyam that is offered to the Goddess is different.
On Thursdays in Margasira month, devotees prepare to perform Laxmi puja either in temples or at homes. Houses are cleaned and kept neat during the festival days and the image or small idol of Goddess Lakshmi is placed at puja place. Some people also place a Kalasham instead of image or idol of Lakshmi.
Lord Vinayaka or Ganesh is worshipped first. Devotees perform Prathama puja to Ganapati to get rid of obstacles or vignas. After Ganapati puja, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped with shodashopachara puja and ashtottaram and offered special Naivedya on each day during the month. The Margasira Lakshmi vratha katha or the story of Margashira Laxmi puja is recited after puja.
Lakshmi puja is performed on all Thursdays during the month of Margashirsha. If only four Thursdays fall in Margashria masam, then the Laxmi Vratham is also observed on the first Thursday of Pushya masam.
Naivedyam or food offerings to Goddess Lakshmi during Margasira Lakshmivara Vratham:
- 1st Thursday – Pulagam
- 2nd Thursday – Ksheerannam (Paalannam)
- 3rd Thursday – Kudumulu
- 4th Thursday – Paramannam
- 5th Thursday – Poornam Boorelu
On the last Thursday after Lakshmi puja, poornam boorelu are offered to five mutthaiduvulu (married women) along with ‘thamboolam. The five women are considered as the avataras of Lakshmi and offered meals on this day. There is no udyapana or udwasana for this vratham. One can perform the Margashira Lakshmi vratham for longtime. It is believed that observing Lakshmi puja during the month will solve all problems of performers and Goddess Laxmi blesses devotees with prosperity, wealth and health.

పూర్వ కాలమున ఒక పల్లెటూర్లో కన్నతల్లి లేని ఒక అమ్మాయి తన సవతి తల్లితో అనేక ఇబ్బందులు పడుతూ ఉండేది. ఈ బాధలు చూసిన ఇరుగుపొరుగు వారు జాలి పడేవారు. ఒకనాడు ఆ గ్రామ దేవాలయ పూజారి ఈ అమ్మాయిని పిలిచి “ఓ అమ్మాయి! నీవు లక్ష్మి పూజ చేయుట ప్రారంభించుము. మీకు కష్టనష్టములు తొలగును” అని చెప్పగా ఆనాటి నుండి మట్టితో లక్ష్మి దేవి బొమ్మను తయారు చేసుకుని భక్తిప్రపత్తులతో చూసుకుంటుండేది. సవతి తల్లి తన బిడ్డను ఆడించేందుకు ఆ పిల్లకు అప్పగించి చిన్న బెల్లం ముక్కను కూడా ఇచ్చేది. ఆ పిల్ల ఆ బెల్లాన్ని లక్ష్మి బొమ్మకు నైవేద్యం వుంచేది. కొన్నాళ్ళకు ఆ పిల్ల యుక్త వయస్కురాలై, పెళ్ళయ్యి అత్తవారింటికి వెళ్ళిపోయింది. తనతో పాటు, లక్ష్మి దేవి బొమ్మను కూడా తీసుకెళ్ళి పోయింది. అంతటితో ఆమె పుట్టింటి వైభవమే తరలి పోయింది. అత్తింట్లో నిత్యకళ్యాణం కాగా పుట్టింట్లో దరిద్రం దాపురించింది.
ఆ విషయం తెలిసిన ఆ అమ్మాయి వెంటనే తమ్మున్ని పిలిచి, ఒక చేతికర్ర నిండా వరహాలు నింపి అతని చేతికిచ్చి ఇంటికి చేరవేయమని చెప్పింది కాని ఆ కర్రను అతను మార్గమధ్యంలో పోగొట్టుకున్నాడు. కొన్నాళ్ళ తర్వాత తమ్ముడు మళ్ళీ వచ్చి “మనిల్లు ఎప్పటిలాగే దరిద్రం గానే ఉంది” అని చెప్పగా, అతనికి ఒక చెప్పుల జోడు నిండా వరహాలు పోసి నాన్న కివ్వమని చెప్పింది. దాన్నికూడా అతను ఎక్కడో పోగొట్టుకుని ఇంటికి చేరాడు. మళ్ళీ ఒక గుమ్మడికాయ నిండా రత్నాలు పోసి తమ్ముడికిచ్చి అమ్మకివ్వమని చెప్పింది. అది కూడా పోగొట్టుకున్న తమ్ముడు తన దురదృష్టాన్ని తిట్టుకుంటూ ఇంటికి చేరాడు. కొన్నాళ్ళ తర్వాత భర్త అనుమతిపై పుట్టింటికి వెళ్ళింది ఆ అమ్మాయి.
తన సవతి తల్లితో “అమ్మ! ఈ రోజు లక్ష్మివారం కదా లక్ష్మీదేవి వ్రతం నోచుకుందాం. నువ్వేమీ తినకుండా ఉండు” అని చెప్పింది. తల్లి సరేనని చెప్పి, చంటి పిల్లలకు చద్దన్నాలు పెడుతూ తాను కూడా ఒక ముద్ద తిన్నది. తన కూతురికి ఆ విషయం తెలియడంతో, “సరేలే, వచ్చేవారం నోచుకుందాం. ఆ రోజైనా జాగ్రత్తగా ఉండు” అని చెప్పింది. ఆ రెండవ లక్ష్మివారం నాడు పిల్లలకు తలంట్లు పోస్తూ ఆ తల్లి, మిగిలిన నూనెను తలకు రాసుకుంది. “సరేలే, మూడోవారం నోచుకున్డువు గానీ అప్పుడైనా జాగ్రత్తగా ఉండు” అని చెప్పింది.
తల్లి మూడోవారం, నాలుగో వారం కూడా ఏదో రకంగా వ్రత నియమాలను ఉల్లంఘించడంతో, చేసేదేమీలేక అసహనంతో “ఐదో లక్ష్మివారం అయినా నిష్టగా ఉండి పూజ చేయకపోతే మీ దరిద్రం ఇలాగే ఉంటుంది” అని కాస్త హెచ్చరించి, ఆ రోజు రాగానే తల్లి కొంగు తన కొంగుకు ముడి వేసుకుని, తల్లితోవ్రతం చేయించింది.
కూతురు పూర్ణం బూరెలు నివేదించ గానే మహాలక్ష్మి స్వీకరించింది. కాని తల్లి పెట్టినవి మాత్రం స్వీకరించలేదు. “అమ్మాయీ నీ చిన్నతనంలో నువ్వు నా బొమ్మతో ఆడుకొంటుంటే, నీ సవతి తల్లి నిన్ను చీపురుతో కొట్టింది. ఆడపిల్లలు సిరికి ప్రతిరూపాలు. అందువల్ల మీ అమ్మ నైవేద్యం తీసుకోలేదు” అని చెప్పగా, ఆ అమ్మాయి తన తల్లితో అమ్మవారికి క్షమాపణ చెప్పించగా అప్పుడు అమ్మవారు నైవేద్యం ఆరగించి ఆ ఇంట్లో సుఖ సంతోషాలు, సిరి సంపదలు వర్దిల్లుతాయని వరమిచ్చి అంతర్ధానమైంది.
