Mamata Banerjee Letter to Opposition Leaders - Summary
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently sent a letter to top Opposition leaders, asking them to unite against the BJP and defend democracy in India. In her heartfelt message, she shared serious worries about multiple attacks on democracy and constitutional federalism by the BJP and its government at the Centre.
Important Points from Mamata Banerjee’s Letter
Mamata Banerjee appealed in a three-page letter to 15 influential non-BJP leaders. This group includes Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, DMK chief MK Stalin, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, NC chief Farooq Abdullah, and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.
Concerns About Recent Changes in Legislation
In her letter, Mamata Banerjee raised alarm over the recent passage of the controversial National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill by both Houses of Parliament, calling it “an extremely grave development.” She claimed, “The NCT Bill is a direct attack on the federal structure of the Indian Republic, as outlined in the Constitution. It also makes a mockery of the letter and spirit of democracy since it disempowers the people of the national capital.”
