गारुड़ पुराण कहता है जहाँ जीवन है वहाँ मृत्यु भी निश्चित है, जो प्राणी जन्म ग्रहण करता है उसे समय आने पर मरना भी पड़ता है और जो मरता है उसे जन्म लेना पड़ता है। पुराण जन्म का यह सिद्धांत सनातन धर्म की विशेषता है जीवन की पारी समपत्ति मृत्यु से होती है इस ध्रुव सत्य को सभी ने स्वीकार किया है और यह प्रत्यक्ष भी दिखाई पड़ता है इसीलिए कल मृत्यु से आक्रांत की रक्षा करने में औषध तपश्या, दान और माता-पिता और बंधू आधी कोई भी समर्थ नहीं।
