Understanding the Ganga Kalyana Scheme
The Ganga Kalyana Scheme intends to enhance irrigation facilities for agricultural lands by implementing a lift irrigation system that harnesses continuous water sources like rivers. This system lifts water via pipelines to ensure it reaches the fields effectively. For areas without access to perennial water, bore wells are drilled based on assessments from expert geologists.
A. Lift Irrigation Scheme
The lift irrigation scheme guarantees reliable irrigation for agricultural lands by utilizing natural water sources such as rivers, thereby lifting water through an efficient pipeline system.
Eligibility:
- Beneficiaries must belong to the religious minority communities as defined in the Government Order.
- Applicants should be permanent residents of Karnataka State.
- Must be categorized as small and marginal farmers.
- The annual income of the family should not exceed ₹.22,000/-.
Farmers with less than 5 acres of land and a minimum of 7 individuals from minority communities whose lands are together can avail themselves of the “Lift” irrigation facility.
B. Individual Borewell
For areas lacking perennial water sources, borewells are drilled at strategic points to ensure adequate underground water availability. Tanks are constructed for water storage, serving as a medium to channel water through pipes to the designated lands. These borewells are maintained by the Corporation for five years, after which the maintenance responsibility shifts to the consumer co-operatives formed by the beneficiaries. Additionally, the scheme includes guidance from agricultural experts to support farmers in achieving fruitful yields. It is important to note that this scheme is available on a subsidy basis.
Farmers owning 2 to 5 acres of land will benefit from either a borewell being drilled or an open well constructed, along with a pump set provided by the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation (KMDC). The total project expenditure is ₹.1,50,000/-, which covers the costs for the pump and energization.
