Dasara Pooja Vidhanam - Summary
Dasara, also called Vijayadashami, is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Durga defeated the demon Mahishasura. Dasara Pooja Vidhanam means the proper method or steps of performing the pooja during this festival. Families worship Goddess Durga, Saraswati, and Lakshmi with devotion, seeking blessings for knowledge, wealth, and protection.
The Dasara Pooja Vidhanam explains how to perform rituals and prayers during the Dasara festival. It includes setting up the pooja place, chanting mantras, offering flowers, fruits, and prasadam to the Goddess. People also place books, tools, and instruments before the Goddess as a mark of respect. This pooja is done with faith to invite happiness, strength, and success into life.
Dasara Pooja Vidhanam in Telugu
In Hindu tradition, festivals are usually celebrated in the morning. However, on Dasara, conducting poojas in the afternoon is considered auspicious. On this day, it is customary to place lotus leaves in the northeastern corner and chant the mantra “Aparajitaya Namah” while praying to Goddess Durga and Lord Rama. Following this, offerings of kumkum (red powder), rice, and flowers are presented as a Naivedyam (food offering) to the deity. Finally, an Aarti (song of praise) is performed for the goddess.
On the day of Dasara, it has become a tradition for men to visit the fields and sight the peacock. Elders believe that this custom has been passed down through generations. Similarly, the worship of the Jammikonda tree is important on this day. Many believe that sighting the peacock brings success in all endeavors. The peacock, adorned with vibrant blue and yellow colors, holds significant cultural and mythological importance, and everyone aspires to see it.
