West Bengal National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) Form - Summary

The West Bengal National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) is a vital program designed to support landless agricultural labourers. Launched on 1st April 1998, this scheme offers financial assistance to individuals aged between 18 and 50 who possess up to 50 decimal of land, including their homestead land. To qualify for the NFBS, the main income source for these beneficiaries must be their work as agricultural labourers.

Eligibility and Contributions

To enjoy the benefits of the NFBS, eligible participants must deposit a monthly fee of Rs.10/- (ten). The State Government matches this monthly deposit until the participant reaches the age of 50 years. Once they reach this age, beneficiaries receive the total accumulated amount along with the interest that has been earned over the years, providing crucial financial support to them and their families.

Refunds and Administration

If a subscriber can no longer continue with the scheme, they can claim a refund of the money they have saved. This refund will include the contribution matched by the State Government. It’s important to understand that local Gram Panchayats manage the NFBS at the village level, while the Block Development Officer and District Magistrate oversee its implementation, ensuring everything runs smoothly and fairly.

As of 31.03.2007, there have been a total of 9,13,901 subscribers who have deposited Rs.20.52 crores collectively, earning interest of Rs.4.29 crores over time. This shows the significant impact the NFBS has had on the lives of many families in West Bengal.
