This version retells the Sanskrit Adhyatma Ramayana in the Kilippattu (bird song) style. Ezhuthachan skillfully used the Grantha-based Malayalam script to compose his Ramayana, despite the Vatteluttu writing system being the prevalent form in Kerala at that time. The recitation of Adhyathma Ramayanam Kilippattu holds great significance in Hindu families across Kerala. The month of Karkitakam in the Malayalam calendar is celebrated as the month for Ramayana recitations, with families and temples across the state engaging in this cherished practice.
