Weather Notes Form 1 - Summary
The study of weather involves understanding the state of the atmosphere at a specific place for a short period of time, whether it’s from hour to hour or day to day. Weather includes important factors like temperature, humidity, precipitation (both type and amount), air pressure, wind, and cloud cover.
Each day brings different weather conditions, which can change based on factors such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind speed. These factors are known as the elements of weather. Weather is different from climate, which refers to the average weather conditions for a specific location over a long period, usually about 30 years.

Elements of Weather
- Sunshine: Sunshine refers to the sun’s rays reaching the surface of the Earth.
- Temperature: This measures how hot or cold a place is. The heat in the atmosphere primarily comes from the sun.
- Humidity: Humidity is the amount of water vapor (moisture) present in the air.
- Cloud Cover: Clouds consist of tiny water droplets or ice particles suspended in the atmosphere. They form when water vapor cools and condenses.
- Precipitation: This refers to moisture, whether water vapor or frozen, falling from the atmosphere to the ground.
- Wind: Wind is moving air, consisting of various gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide. It flows from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas.
