The Seven Words on The Cross Sermon

According to the Gospels, Jesus made seven different comments while hung on the cross for six hours. These utterances are extremely important since they are Jesus’ final words before His death.

They show that Jesus remained consistent in His life and message to the end.

Sayings of Jesus on the Cross

Following are the seven words:

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”
“Today you will be with me in Paradise”
“Woman, behold your Son”
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
“I thirst”
“It is finished”
“Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”

The Suffering of Jesus had come to an end

Jesus exclaimed, “It is finished” for a fourth and final time about His pain. Jesus spent nearly 30 years on the planet, living among sinful men and suffering from the self-imposed constraints that came with that existence. He had now spent the last six hours of his agony on a cross. This was now complete. He wouldn’t have to deal with the constraints of space and time any longer. It had been completed!

Summary

The seven remarks spoken by Jesus from the cross have profound implications for us today. They remind us once more that His death was much more than a historical fact. Our redemption was assured by the ultimate sacrifice. His concluding remarks demonstrate that we can have complete faith in Him as our Savior.
