Savitribai Phule Biography - Summary
Savitribai Jyotirao Phule was a prominent Indian social reformer, educationist, and poet who played an instrumental role in women’s education and empowerment during the nineteenth century. Counted among a few literate women of those times, Savitribai is credited for founding the first girl’s school in Pune in Bhide Wada with her husband Jyotirao Phule.
Savitribai Phule (3rd January 1831- 10 March 1897), was one of the supreme names who fought against the totalitarianism of caste and other social evils in India. She was born in Naigaon, (Tha. Khandala, Distt. Satara) her father’s name was Khandoji Nevse and her mother’s name was Lakshmi.
