PoCRA Scheme - Summary
The PoCRA Scheme, formally called the Project on Climate Resilient Agriculture, is a significant initiative set forth by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra, teaming up with the World Bank. This scheme aims to support Maharashtra’s farmers by encouraging climate-resilient agriculture practices. By boosting climate resilience and income for around 700,000 small (1-2 hectares) and 1,000,000 marginal (less than 1 hectare) farmers, the PoCRA Scheme is vital in tackling the challenges faced by farmers in 5,000 villages across 15 districts affected by drought and salinity/sodicity.
Understanding the PoCRA Scheme
The PoCRA Scheme is designed to empower farmers with the necessary knowledge and tools to adapt to the changing climate. This ensures sustainable farming practices in Maharashtra. Through this initiative, farmers are motivated to embrace innovative techniques that not only enhance productivity but also conserve precious natural resources.
