PMMVY Guidelines - Summary

PMMVY, or Pradhanmantri Matritva Vandana Yojana, is a significant central scheme aimed at offering essential support to pregnant women and lactating mothers. Through PMMVY, these mothers are granted a cash incentive of Rs. 6000/- deposited directly into their Bank or Post Office Account for their first living child, provided they meet certain conditions related to Maternal and Child Health.

Understanding PMMVY Benefits

This cash incentive is distributed in three parts: the first installment of Rs. 1000/- is given upon early registration of pregnancy at an Anganwadi Centre (AWC) or a recognized Health facility as decided by the respective State or UT. The second installment of Rs. 2000/- is released six months into pregnancy, contingent upon receiving at least one ante-natal check-up (ANC). Finally, the third installment of Rs. 2000/- is available after the birth is registered, and the child has received their first vaccinations for BCG, OPV, DPT, and Hepatitis-B or equivalent vaccines.

Who Is Eligible?

Beneficiaries who can avail of this scheme include:

  • All Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers, with the exception of those who are regularly employed by the Central or State Governments, PSUs, or those receiving similar benefits under any existing law.
  • Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers who conceived on or after 01.01.2017 for their first child.
  • The date and stage of pregnancy will be determined using the Last Menstrual Period (LMP) recorded in the Mother and Child Protection (MCP) card.
  • By providing cash incentives, the scheme aims to promote better health-seeking behaviors among Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM).
