Nipun Bharat Mission - Summary
Nipun Bharat Yojana, also known as the Nipun Bharat Mission, was launched by the Ministry of Education on 5th July 2021. This vital scheme aims to create an enabling environment for basic literacy and numeracy education among children. The National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy aims to ensure that by the end of third grade, every child will be able to read, write, and perform arithmetic by the year 2026-27. This important initiative is overseen by the Department of School Education and Literacy.

Nipun Bharat Mission – Objectives
- To ensure an inclusive classroom environment by incorporating play, discovery, and activity-based pedagogies, linking them to the daily life situations of the children and the formal inclusion of children’s home languages.
- To motivate children to become independent and engaged readers and writers, understanding and possessing sustainable reading and writing skills.
- To help children comprehend reasoning in number, measurement, and shapes; enabling them to become independent problem-solvers through numeracy and spatial understanding skills.
- To ensure the availability and effective use of high-quality, culturally responsive teaching-learning materials in the children’s familiar home or mother languages.
- To continuously build the capacity of teachers, head teachers, academic resource persons, and education administrators.
- To actively engage all stakeholders, including Teachers, Parents, Students, and Community members, in building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
- To ensure assessment ‘as, of, and for learning’ through portfolios, group and collaborative work, project work, quizzes, role plays, games, oral presentations, short tests, etc.
- To track the learning levels of all students effectively.
