Haryana Road Map - Summary

Haryana’s name also signifies ‘The Abode of God’, as derived from Hari (the Hindu God Vishnu) and Ayana (home). Located in the northern part of India, Haryana was established on 1st November 1966 when it was carved out of Punjab. The state is bordered by Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to the north; Rajasthan to the west and south; and Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh to the east. Chandigarh serves as the capital of Haryana.

Rich Historical Significance

Many historically significant settlements can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization, especially along the ancient river Saraswati. Noteworthy sites include Naurangabad and Mitāthal in Bhiwani district, Kunal and Banawali in Fatehabad district, Agroha and Rakhi Shahpur (Rakhigarhi) in Hisar district, and Rükhi in Sonipat district. The ancient Vedic civilization thrived along the Saraswati River, where the hymns of the Rigveda were composed.

Mythical Battles

The famous battle of the Mahabharata took place near Kurukshetra, a city where Lord Krishna delivered the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to the hesitant Arjuna. Kurukshetra is also home to Brahm Sarovar, a site renowned for solar eclipse fairs.

Today, Haryana is viewed as a growth engine for the nation, leading in industrial advancements and embracing modern technology. The city of Gurgaon has risen as one of India’s key Information Technology centers, contributing to the state’s rapid development.
