Crop insurance scheme in Andhra Pradesh
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana(PMFBY) is being implemented in the State of Andhra Pradesh with Village as a unit of insurance for Major crop ie., for Paddy in all 13 districts and with Mandal/Group of Mandals/District as Insurance Unit for other notified crops.
Agriculture is the main occupation of about 62 percent of the people in Andhra Pradesh. Rice is a major food crop and staple food of the State contributing about 77 percent of the food grain production. Other important crops are jawar, bajra, maize, ragi, small millets, pulses, castor, tobacco, cotton, and sugarcane.
Eligibility Criteria
Crop Insurance can be availed by the farmers including sharecroppers and tenant farmers provided they are growing the notified crops in the area.
Non-Loanee farmers are also eligible to avail benefits under crop insurance upon providing land documents.
