The Abhaya Hastham Scheme in Telangana is a vital initiative aimed at providing financial security and dignity to Self-Help Group (SHG) women in their old age. Objective Abhaya Hastham Scheme
- To provide SHG women a dignified life in their old age.
- To ensure income security for SHG women when their earnings significantly reduce.

Eligibility for the Abhaya Hastham Scheme
- All recognized SHG women from rural and urban areas.
- Must be aged between 18 years and 60 years.
- This year, as a one-time exception, members above 60 years are eligible.
- Must be an active SHG member for at least a year (joined by 1/12/2008).
- Must have at least 80% attendance.
- Must have contributed at least 80% of thrift in the previous year.
- Holder of a white ration card.
- The SHG must recommend the member and certify the age through a resolution.
Abhaya Hastham Scheme Benefits
- Each member is eligible for a minimum monthly pension of Rs. 500 after reaching 60 years, depending on their contributions (see annexure-?).
- Women aged 18 to 59 years can receive life insurance coverage:
- Rs. 30,000 in case of natural death.
- Rs. 75,000 for accidental death.
- Rs. 75,000 for permanent disability.
- Rs. 37,500 for partial disability.
- Scholarship of Rs. 1200 per annum for children in 9th, 10th, intermediate, and ITI.
- Members receiving other scholarships from LIC are not eligible for this benefit.
- If a subscriber dies before 60 years, their contributions, along with the government’s share and accrued interest, will go to their nominee, along with the insurance benefit.
- If a member dies after starting to receive the pension (60+ years), the accumulated funds will be transferred to their nominee.
Documents Required
- A white ration card to validate Below Poverty Line (BPL) status (mandatory) (Photocopy).
- Age verification document (Photocopy).
- School certificate.
- Ration card.
- EPIC card (Voter ID).
- Documents to verify active membership status for at least a year:
- Copy of SHG formation.
- Attendance and meeting records (minimum of 80%).
- Thrift contribution records (minimum of 80%).
- Bank loan details (if applicable).
- SHG resolution for joining the scheme, which states each member’s age and includes their documents.
- All submitted documents will be verified by a third party.
- Member details will be generated by MS, ensuring proper VO-wise and SHG-wise documentation. Members will then have a chance to correct any errors before resubmission.
