Svamitva Scheme Guidelines - Summary

The Svamitva Scheme is an important initiative aimed at bringing financial empowerment and improved property management to rural India. Launched by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on 24th April, this scheme introduced the distribution of e-property cards through video conferencing. On this significant occasion, 4.09 lakh property owners received their e-property cards, marking the nationwide implementation of the Svamitva Scheme. Union Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, along with various Chief Ministers and Panchayati Raj Ministers, participated in this momentous event.

Objectives of the Svamitva Scheme

The main objectives of the Svamitva Scheme are as follows:

  • To bring financial stability to citizens in rural India by allowing them to use their property as a financial asset for obtaining loans and other financial benefits.
  • Creation of accurate land records for better rural planning.
  • Determination of property tax, which will directly benefit Gram Panchayats (GPs) in states where it is implemented or contribute to the state’s revenue.
  • Establishment of survey infrastructure and GIS maps that can be used by various departments.
  • To support the development of high-quality Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP) using GIS maps.
  • To minimize property-related disputes and legal complications.
