The Tamil Nadu government has announced new lockdown guidelines to help control the spread of Covid-19. Starting from January 6, Thursday, a night curfew will be in effect from 10 pm to 5 am, and there will be a complete lockdown on Sundays. Tamil Nadu Lockdown New Guidelines
- According to the new rules, all shops, hotels, and other establishments will be closed during the night curfew and the Sunday lockdown. However, restaurants can still operate and offer takeaway from 7 am to 10 pm.
- Essential services such as milk and newspaper deliveries, hospitals, ATMs, petrol stations, buses, and diesel pumps will remain open.
- Metro services will be unavailable on Sundays and also during the night curfew hours.
- Citizens are allowed to travel between 10 pm and 5 am every day, but they must show proof of their travel.
- Public transport like buses, suburban trains, and Metro rail will have only 50% occupancy allowed.
- Classes for LKG and UKG will be closed, while online classes will continue from classes 1 to 9.
- Physical classes are permitted for Class 10, Class 11, and Class 12. All colleges, except for medical and paramedical colleges, will remain closed until January 20.
- For weddings, only 100 people can attend, and the limit for funerals is 50.
- Theatres, shops, and gyms must operate at 50% occupancy.
- Amusement parks will remain closed.
- Beaches will be open but only for walking.
- The public is not allowed in places of worship on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- The current restrictions on social, cultural, and political gatherings will continue.
- All government and privately organized harvest festival ‘Pongal’ and cultural events have been postponed.
