West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee launched the Khadya Sathi Scheme on January 27, 2016. Thanks to this scheme, approximately 7 crores, or nearly 90% of the state’s population, receive rice and wheat for just Rs 2 per kg. Additionally, around 50 lakh more individuals can avail of the same items at half the market price.

In recent months, the state government has focused on digitizing ration cards. The new digital ration cards are gradually replacing the old paper ones. This transition is still in progress. If you encounter any issues with your ration cards, you can visit the website of the Food and Supplies Department of the Government of West Bengal at wbpds.gov.in. From there, you can download the necessary forms, fill them out, and submit them at your local borough or municipality office:

To notify a name for a ration card: Form III-R / Form III-U
To add a family member’s name: Form IV-R / Form IV-U
For name or address correction: Form V-R / Form V-U
For changing to a new ration shop: Form VI-R / Form VI-U

Those who still possess old ration cards can purchase non-PDS items (there are 50 such items) and kerosene oil. Moreover, as announced by the Chief Minister during a press conference in Nabanna, rations will remain valid for two months. This ensures that even if someone faces a delay in receiving the new cards, they still have two months to collect their share.
