West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Khadya Sathi Scheme on January 27, 2016. This initiative ensures that around 7 crores, or nearly 90% of the state’s population, receive rice and wheat at just Rs 2 per kg. Additionally, around 50 lakh more individuals can acquire the same items at half the market price.

The State Government is currently digitizing ration cards. This transition replaces older versions with digital cards, and the process is still ongoing. If you have questions or issues regarding your ration cards, you can visit the Food and Supplies Department of the Government of West Bengal’s website, wbpds.gov.in, to download and fill out the necessary forms, which can then be submitted at your local borough or municipality office:

  • For getting a name added to the ration card: Form III-R / Form III-U
  • For adding a family member’s name who is left out: Form IV-R / Form IV-U
  • For correcting a name or address: Form V-R / Form V-U
  • For switching to a new ration shop: Form VI-R / Form VI-U

People who still have old ration cards can obtain non-PDS goods (there are 50 such items) and kerosene oil. The Chief Minister also announced that rations will be valid for a duration of two months. This means that if you delay receiving your new cards, you can still collect your share for two additional months.
