उत्तररामचरित (Uttararāmacarita) Hindi
उत्तररामचरित (भवभूति द्वारा रचित) एक संस्कृत नाटक है जिसमें सात क्रियाएँ हैं और यह नाटक नाट्य शैली में है। यह वाल्मीकि रामायण के उत्तरकांड के घटनाओं को वर्णित करता है, जिसमें राम के पृथ्वी पर रहने के आखिरी वर्षों की कथा है और उनके दिव्य अवतारण का वर्णन करता है।
इसमें सात क्रियाएँ हैं, और इसका मुख्य विषय सीता के त्याग का है। पहली क्रिया में राम की कहानी का संक्षेप दिया गया है, सीता के अग्नि परीक्षण तक की घटनाओं का वर्णन किया गया है। लोग जो अग्नि परीक्षण के स्थान से दूर थे, उन्होंने राम की सीता को स्वीकार करने पर उनके आलोचना की और राम ने सीता को छोड़ देने का दुःखद निर्णय लिया। उन्होंने उसे बिना किसी स्पष्टीकरण के दूर भेज दिया, उसके गर्भवती स्थिति में वनों का दौरा करने की इच्छा को पूरा करने के बहाने। लेकिन, राम कभी भी सीता के पतित्व में कोई संदेह नहीं करते थे और उन्होंने कभी भी उसे अपने मन से निकालने का निर्णय नहीं किया था, जिससे उन्हें अगले बारह सालों में जीना मुश्किल हो गया।

Composed of seven acts, Uttararāmacarita’s main theme is Sita’s abandonment. The first act gives a brief summary of Rama’s story up to the fire-ordeal of Sita.
The common people who were away from the scene of the fire-ordeal, refused to be convinced and made uncharitable criticism of Rama’s acceptance of Sita. This forced Rama to take the regrettable decision of abandoning her. He sends her away without explanation under the pretext of satisfying her longing for visiting the forests again in her pregnant condition. But, Rama never entertained any doubt about her chastity and he never banished her from his mind, and this makes him undergo a living death for the next 12 years.
