பொன்னியின் செல்வன் நாவல், கல்கி அவர்கள் எழுதிய தமிழ் புதினமாகும். 1950 முதல் 1955 ஆண்டு வரை கல்கி என்ற வார இதழில் தொடர்கதையாக வெளியிடப்பட்டது. இந்த கதைக்குக் கிடைத்த மக்கள் ஆதரவு காரணமாகத் தொடர்ந்து அடுத்த அடுத்த வருடங்களில் இதே புதினத்தைக் கல்கி இதழ் தொடராக வெளியிட்டது. மேலும் தனி நூலாகவும் வெளியிடப்பட்டுப் பல பதிப்புக்களைக் கண்டுள்ளது. கி.பி. 1000 ஆம் ஆண்டு வாக்கிலிருந்த சோழப் பேரரசைக் கருப்பொருளாகக் கொண்டு இந்த வரலாற்றுப் புதினம் எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.
