Eligibility Criteria for PMAY
- EWS/LIG (Economically Weaker Section/Lower Income Group)
- An applicant, family, or household should not own a pucca house anywhere in India, in their name or in any family member’s name.
- The applicant must not have received any central or state assistance from any housing scheme of the Government of India in the past.
- It is mandatory for one adult female member to be part of the property ownership.
- The property should be co-owned by a female family member.
- The property must be located in all statutory towns as per the 2011 census and their adjacent planning area (as updated by the government).
- MIG (Middle-Income Group)
- The applicant must not own a pucca house in their name or in the name of any family member anywhere in India.
- The applicant must not have availed any central or state assistance from any housing scheme of the Government of India before.
- It is preferable for an adult female member to be included in the property ownership.
- The property must be located in all statutory towns as per the 2011 census or adjacent planning areas (updated by the government periodically).
Essential Documents Needed for the PMAY Application Form
- PAN Card (mandatory) and any one of the following documents:
- Voter Card
- Aadhar Card
- Valid Passport
- Driving License
- Photo Credit Card
- Photo Identity card issued by a Government body
- Letter from a recognized public authority verifying the customer’s identity with a photograph (not more than 30 days old)
- Address Proof for PMAY Application:
- Voter Card

- Letter from a recognized public authority verifying both identity and residence of the customer
- Latest Utility Bill
- Rent Agreement on Stamp Paper
- Bank Statements showing the address of borrowers from any commercial nationalized bank
- Credit Card Statement not older than 3 months
- Life Insurance Policy
- Residence Address Certificate/letter from the employer on company letterhead
- Copy of Sale Deed of the property (residence), if owned
- Municipal or Property Tax Receipt
- Post Office Saving Bank Account Statement
- Pension or Family Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) issued to retired employees by Government departments or Public Sector Undertakings, if they contain the address
- Letter of allotment of accommodation from the employer issued by State or Central Government departments, statutory or regulatory bodies, public sector undertakings, scheduled commercial banks, financial institutions, and listed companies. Also, applicable are leave and license agreements with such employers allotting official accommodation.
- Documents issued by Government departments of foreign jurisdiction and letters from Foreign Embassies or Missions in India.
- Proof of Income:
- Last 2 months’ salary slips
- Last 6 months’ bank statement of the salary account
- Latest Form 16 / Income Tax Returns (ITR)
Other documents: Documents related to running loans along with 6 months’ repayment bank statements.
Property Documents
- Copy of complete chain documents of the property (as applicable)
- Copy of Agreement to Sell (if executed)
- Copy of the Allotment Letter/Buyer Agreement (if applicable)
