The president of India officially the president of the Republic of India, is the ceremonial head of state of India and the commander-in-chief of the Indian Armed Forces. Indian Constitution article 53 states that all the executive powers of the Union shall be exercised by him either directly or through officers subordinate to him. The President is the head of the Indian State. The president is referred to as the first citizen of India. All executive actions of the Government of India are formally taken in the name of the President.
