The Gujarat government has started an initiative to reclaim the allotted but unused industrial land across the state. In order to reclaim such land plots, the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has launched a scheme. Under this scheme, the GIDC will pay back a maximum of 75% of the present land value to the owner if they sell the land back to the government.
The Gujarat government will reclaim the land and will endeavour to set up new industries on the reclaimed land parcels. Although there exist schemes which pay back for returning the land tracts to the government, the amount provided in such schemes is too low. It discourages landowners from returning unused land. The new scheme is paying up to 75% of the market value.
