A very warm welcome and good morning to all the dignitaries on the dais, faculty, staff, and my dear friends. Today, we have gathered here to celebrate the 56th Engineers Day. In India, this day is celebrated by the engineering community every year on September 15th.

This date was chosen because it marks the birthday of the legendary engineer, Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (M. Visvesvaraya). It was on this day, 152 years ago, that this great contributor to engineering and development was born. He is known as one of the greatest engineers of all time, whose vision and dedication led to exceptional accomplishments in India. For his outstanding contributions, he was honored with India’s highest civilian award, the “Bharat Ratna”, in 1955. He gained international recognition for his genius in harnessing water resources, the successful design and construction of several river dams and bridges, and implementing irrigation and drinking water schemes across India.

Every letter in the word “Engineer” has its own special meaning:
E – Eager,
N – Nonstop Learning,
G – Genius,
I – Intelligent,
N – Nation’s Builder,
E – Effort Maker,
E – Excellence,
R – Rider.

A famous quote says, “Engineering is the professional art of applying science to the optimum conversion of natural resources to the benefit of man”.

This quote confirms the influential role of engineers in national development. Engineers work at the interface between science and society. They are the backbone of progress and technology.

Today, India has significant visions and missions in areas such as space research, defense development, rural growth, renewable energies, agriculture and food processing, and information and communication technology. To achieve these goals, we need engineers who have a vision and the passion to turn that vision into action, along with the courage to think differently and solve problems.

According to the “India Vision 2020” proposed by the honorable former president, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, not only engineers but everyone should strive to live in a developed nation. Each one of us must show commitment towards the nation’s development.

Finally, I’d like to remind you of an old saying: “Engineers rule the world.” As we work towards becoming engineers ourselves, we should promise to use our intelligence and knowledge for the welfare of society and humanity.

Thank you very much.
